We already know being creative can make us happier and healthier. But while we may think of creativity in terms of writing a novel or painting a masterpiece, experts say it can really mean anything from trying a new recipe to submitting an original idea during a meeting.
Creativity is not a gift for just a few. Many people don’t engage their creative-selves. They do nothing to juice up their ability to have new and amazing ideas. You can be deliberate about improving your creativity.
Walk
As a form of exercise, walking keeps your entire body active and your brain alert. However don’t wait for an evening walk, walk while you work and have some walking meetings too. The more your brain is alert, the better your creativity.
Do nothing
Work and rest are both important. Many times the best ideas come when you are taking a quick nap, in a dream at night or on a vacation. Resting is not for lazy people, it’s also for creative people. Guard your resting time jealously.
Listen to yourself
Listening to your own requests is something creative people have mastered. I should quickly add that these requests should be empowering not out of self-pity or self-sabotage. Some examples include requests to exercise, listen to inspirational music, drink more water, read more or meditate. Grant yourself these wonderful gifts.
Creativity isn’t a skill restricted to artists, musicians or writers; it is a useful skill for people from all walks of life. If you’ve ever wanted to boost your creativity, pick on a tip from the one mentioned above and practice it. It can help.
