Conflicts are most likely to happen in any organization at any time. The subject matter is not what happened but how you handle it. Workplace misunderstandings lowers team spirits, elevates discord and gradually kills productivity. Below, is one of the ways you can effectively handle misunderstandings;
Instead of wondering left and right in ideologies and perspectives. Put your focus on the subject matter. Concentrate only on what has happened at the moment. Some people tend to bring past experiences, forgotten disagreements and the like. Ask questions like, what is that pressing circumstance at the moment?
Be open minded to understand the grass root of what transpired. An understanding attitude is not quick in judging or taking sides. It only delights in knowing what really caused the issue thus coming up with possible solutions.
Specification breads clarity of issues. As the old saying goes ‘Call a spade a spade not a big spoon,’ will shorten the process of unnecessary essays. Look for specific causes, specific interpretations and devise solutions accordingly.
Ownership of faults
Strongly advocate for ownership of mistakes and actions which might have triggered the conflict. Being responsible for your actions signifies that you have accepted the fault and willing to settle the matter. The blame game and denial will only result in condemnation of everybody, and in the end, nobody will take responsibility for the triggers.
Have several alternatives
Having several alternatives in mind on how to go about the conflict is very progressive. Suggest measures that create a fair settlement of issues. Irrespective of the context, equity and equality is a standing rule.
Mind the voice intonations, body gestures, expressions of matters and the energy used. Ensure that the environment is conducive enough for settlement. Create a calm and relaxing nature and the involved parties will go silent.
Never allow any person who is directly involved in conflicts to take the lead of a discussion. When this rule is breached, there will be so much but quarrels and exchange of words.
